As a small company, Buster Brown Shoes was set up in St Louis by George Warren Brown in 1878 to manufacture and sell shoes. That is the beginning of the Buster Brown Shoe Co. The company became a very large enterprise and today has sales of about $2.3 billion. In 1904, twenty five years after the company was set up, the Buster Brown name was purchased from Richard F Outcault, the creator of the cartoon character Buster Brown and his dog, Tiger.
The company took inspiration from the hugely popular cartoon character, and in 1999, Buster Brown & Co. was renamed as Brown Shoe Company. They make shoes for men, women and children.
