Bobux Shoes for children started operation in 1991. Bobux Shoes started with Chris Bennett making a shoe for his daughter Chloe, aged 9 months at the time. Since her shoe had laces and they kept coming off there was always the danger of the child tripping over and hurting herself. Chris made some changes in her shoes by taking off the lace and using elastic instead. He used suede and leather uppers and with the elastic created a whole new design. Bobux Started to get popular with friends and family. This encouragement led them having a stall put up at the craft market at Victoria Park where their stock of 60 pairs of shoes was sold in a record time of 2 hours. Within 6 months they started production and the response was absolutely overwhelming. The first manufacturing unit was set up in the garage of their home in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first year saw sales of 8000 pairs of the kid’s shoes. The tremendous response that the Shoes received led them to have a distributor in Australia and an agent in Vancouver. As of now the brand is sold in over 18 countries worldwide. This includes USA, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada and most of the countries in Europe. The Bobux Company has sales of over 1.5 million pairs annually and this is expected to grow further with the new innovations and design plans they have in the pipeline.

The company’s logo is the “Bobux”, a bear which draws inspiration from the Pukanini bear which was earlier to be seen in New Zealand and is now extinct.
